I was first exposed to metalsmithing in high school in 1988. The process of transforming raw metal into some other form, be it for purposes of beauty, utility or both, was fascinating to me. However, I had never considered myself to be an "artist" and so I didn't give serious thought to pursuing metalsmithing as a career. Even then I had a strong interest in computers and technology and that's where my education, training and career led me.

Fast forward to 2006. I found a course for "metal jewelry" in a local community college bulletin and remembered my interest in metalwork from almost two decades before. I enrolled in the course and was quickly reminded of two things. First, it is a lot of fun to work with metal. Second, there's a lot of equipment and not all of it is cheap.

I wanted to continue working in metal, but I couldn't see spending a huge sum of money up front to setup a complete metalworking shop. Instead, I focused on an area of jewelry with which I had almost no experience: chain maille.

There is something very satisfying about starting with a pile of jump rings and weaving a finished product with your own hands and your own skills. Even though that same chain could sometimes be woven many times faster with a machine, I've found that many people still appreciate the craftsmanship that is required to produce something handmade, something personal.

My friends and family liked the chains that I was creating and I began making some small sales. This has gradually brought me to the point where I am opening my virtual doors in the hope that others will discover the simple elegance that chain maille jewelry provides.
