Measuring for Bracelets

A properly sized bracelet will be comfortable to wear and will not constrict the wrist. How loose or how tight a bracelet should be is a matter of personal taste, but you should consider the setting in which the bracelet will be worn. A loose fitting bracelet can easily interfere with day to day activities but be perfect for a formal evening out. On the other hand, a bracelet that is too tight will be uncomfortable to wear and will often wear out faster because of the constant pressure being placed on the rings of the chain.

A typical measurement for a woman's bracelet is 7" while the typical man's bracelet measures 8". If you want a more accurate measurement, then take a flexible tape measure or a piece of string and encircle the wrist just past the wrist bone (nearest the elbow). This is the base measurement. To that base measurement, add another 1/4" - 1" depending on how much slack you want. 1/2" is typical, but again, this is a matter of personal taste.

When weaving your bracelet, include the clasp as part of the overall length. Otherwise the bracelet will be too long and will be too loose.
