The rings used to weave a particular piece of chain maille jewelry can be made from many different materials such as stainless steel, aluminum, gold and silver. Each material has its own unique characteristics and should be selected on how the jewelry will be used. For example, while aluminum comes in many attractive colors, it's cheaper and more lightweight than gold or silver, which might make it less desirable for special occasions or events. On the other hand, gold and silver, while much more traditional, might not be suitable for everyday wear, particularly if it's an expensive piece.
